what claim is the author and how does he support it throughout the selection?
he is saying the government shouldn't be able to try and control what we eat, and taking all different kinds of things out of the school lunches. "..even worse, they are eager to have the government batter us into compliance." he also shows that he thinks we shouldn't eat food that has so many chemicals in them. he supports these throughout the article by giving all different types of information about all of it. "the percentage of farmers who plant genetically engineered crops again after trying them once- approaches about 100%"

May 6th 2013 attendence policies
Assess the quality of the writing and research.
i think the quality of the writing was good. i twas easy to understand and not on a low reading level. there weren't any big words that i couldn't understand so i could read it quick and easy and get all the information needed.
what is the author's purpose?
the authors purpose was to show that students need to have better attendance, and he backs this point up with various examples like showing how they do better in school work when they attend class on a regular basis.
how does the author achieve this?
he achieves this by showing what they did in certain years of dropping your grade by two letter grades, and showed how that increased attendance. he uses previous researches and information along with new researches and information.

April 30th 2013 Shakespeare boosts the brain
Do you agree with the findings in the research?
Yes i do agree with the findings of the research, however i do think they could have possibly found a way to do more tests on the subject.
can you think of any other possible explanations of the results?
the brain gets stimulated while reading anyway, they should have done different kinds of books to see if it really was higher or how much higher those books were compared to others

i think the writing of this article was good. there weren't a lot of big words, therefore it was pretty easy to understand exactly what they were trying to say

April 29th 2013 "Entitlement Society"
In this Article at one point it states that it covers "..all major entitlement programs except veterans programs, and military and civil and service retirement.." I think there would be a lot of more information if that was in there. and I really think that they should be added in there because if they are some of the major entitlement programs then why would you leave those out? I think the quality of the writing could be a little better, it is good but they could make it easier for the reader to follow along since there all these different types of names like WIC, LIHEAP and so forth. I liked how they put a lot of their data into tables. I didn't like how long it was. for me the subject of the article was hard to read.
